MMC Challenges local business to be the Biggest Losers

 

Who would want to join a bunch of “LOSERS”? You would, we hope.

Come participate in the Cherokee County Business Community Weight Loss Challenge; you’ll lose weight and win “BIG”.
This community challenge for a healthier lifestyle is part of Murphy Medical Center’s commitment to health and wellness.

Can you do it? Of course, you can, especially with the support of your friends and co-workers!
All businesses, large and small can join the 8-week challenge being sponsored by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Cherokee Scout and Murphy Medical Center.

Many of Murphy Medical Center employees have accepted the “Lighten Up” healthy lifestyle challenge. Over the last 12 week the MMC Team Challengers lost a total of 457 pounds.  It took a combination of exercise, healthy diet plan and education to help these dedicated employees find their way to health.

Here’s how to compete (it’s simple!):

1. Create teams of 4 people – as many teams as you want.
2. Teams name themselves, e.g., “Grease Monkeys” or any catchy phrase.
3. Designate a person to privately weigh employees each week on the same scales at your place of business.
4. Individual weights are confidential and not reported to anyone outside your organization. Also, this program is based on the honor system!
5. Individual team members can choose any healthy diet plan.
6. Encourage participants to exercise 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes, i.e., walking, swimming, biking, etc.

The challenge will begin Friday, July 25 and end Friday, September 19.  Please notify Sande Kimball, Director at the Cherokee Co. Chamber of Commerce of your team’s name(s) and each team’s beginning weight (total weight of the team, not individual). 

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams that have lost the greatest percentage of weight.  This percentage will be calculated by the total weight of each team on July 25, compared to the total weight measured on September 19.  The awards will be announced and presented at Murphy Medical Center’s Two Hours from Anywhere 5K Challenge and Heart Walk on Saturday, September 20, 2008.  The 2-mile walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and teams are enthusiastically encouraged to participate.  It will be a great way for your employees to celebrate their weight loss!  Entry forms are available from the Chamber of Commerce or Murphy Medical Center.

Prizes for the Cherokee County Business Community Weight Loss Challenge will be awarded during the MMC 5K Challenge, Heart Walk and Kids Fun Run to be held September 20th. Last year, Kelly Hyde, PA with Peachtree Internal Medicine, finished the MMC Kids Fun Run with her few months-old twins Luke, Lauren. Come join the fun.
