Students Prep for School Sports with Physicals

More than 250 athletically-minded Cherokee and Clay county students received their sports physicals from Murphy Group Practice on June 7-9.  The elementary, middle, and high school children play a variety of sports which require a physical to ensure they are healthy prior to playing.

Dr. Brent Davis and Susanne Wise, P.A. provided orthopedic exams; Kay Hayes, FNP, Dr. Glendon Rougeau, and Dr. Jill Schenk provided general physical exams; and many clinical and general staff helped at various stations to move the crowd of 258 students through.

The physicals were provided at a highly discounted rate of $5 each.  “We realize how the expense of sports equipment, shoes, and other required items can add up, and just how hard it can be on family finances, especially in these difficult economic times,” Lloyd Beck, Murphy Group Practice Administrator stated.  “So, we wanted to offer a thorough but inexpensive sports physical for students.  We really like seeing the kids being active out on the field.”

Parent Leslie Woody stated, “As someone who has raised seven children, all of whom participated in sports at various times, I know these physicals can really impact the family budget.  They’re usually $20, so to have these exams essentially donated for $5 each added up to a lot of savings for me!”

Murphy Group Practice is the physician practice unit of Murphy Medical Center.  It offers Family Practice, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and General Surgery specialties.
