Nurses recognized with DAISY Award

DAISY awardsTwo nurses were presented with the Fall 2011 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses during a ceremony at Murphy Medical Center on October 21.

Sally Cody, RN, Emergency Department and Joanne Klingbeil, RN, Intensive Care Unit were recognized for their exceptional commitment to teamwork, quality, safety, compassion, and professionalism.

The award is presented twice yearly at Murphy Medical Center in recognition of the efforts nurses make in the course of their daily job, based on nominations by patients, patients’ family members or fellow employees.

Cody and Klingbeil each received a certificate of recognition, an embroidered lab coat, and a special “Healer’s Touch” sculpture, which are hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.  Each nurse’s name will also be displayed on a plaque inside the hospital lobby.

The award is presented twice yearly at Murphy Medical Center by the Nursing Professional Practice Council to recognize those special nurses who impact their patients and fellow employees in a deep and meaningful way.

The DAISY award was created in 2001 by the DAISY Foundation to honor J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications of an immune system disease.  DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
