Granny’s Attic Donates Big to Good Shepherd

Peachtree, NC  –   The volunteers of area thrift store Granny’s Attic recently presented a record annual donation of $35,750 to representatives of Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice Agency.

Granny’s Attic, located in Hayesville and operated by volunteers, annually donates its net proceeds to the non-profit Murphy Medical Center in support of its home health and hospice efforts.

“We have fun with what we do, but most importantly, we all do it with love in our hearts for the staff at Good Shepherd and for our neighbors and friends who need quality home health and hospice care,” stated Linda Davis, President of Granny’s Attic. “It’s something we all think is worth working to support.”

Kathi Osborne, Foundation Director at Murphy Medical Center said, “This significant donation really demonstrates the dedication of the volunteers at Granny’s Attic to the good works of Good Shepherd.  Their collective effort to sell all those many items for just one, two, and three dollars each really added up in 2008.  We are so very appreciative of their support.”

Donations are used to help offset deficits incurred from nonnegotiable rates paid by the federal Medicare and state Medicaid programs that often do not cover the actual cost of care provided.  Funds also assist staff in providing the best possible service, usually with large capital expenditure assistance.

Mike Stevenson, Murphy Medical Center CEO, stated, “We are committed to providing the best home health and hospice care to our area residents, but we face tough financial challenges related to reimbursement. Contributions from supporters like Granny’s Attic and from the folks who’ll attend our benefit auction in May really help us in our efforts.”
