Murphy Medical Earns Community Value Award

Murphy, NC  – For the fifth straight year Murphy Medical Center received a "Five-Star Rating" from Cleverly & Associates, a firm specializing in healthcare financial and operations studies. The five-star distinction was awarded to Murphy Medical Center for achieving a Community Value Index® (CVI) rating in the top 20 percent of the more than 3,500 hospitals included in the study. The CVI was created to measure the value that a hospital provides to the community and allows hospitals to assess their performance in the areas of financial performance, cost position and charge structure.

Steve Gilgen, CFO, said about the award, “Earning the CVI distinction is an honor and a testament to the work we do at Murphy Medical Center. It reinforces our mission of ‘Working to make our community a healthier and better place to live’ while being financially accountable to our patients and community.”

“It’s important to recognize that a large number of hospitals may perform well in one or two of the core areas of the CVI,” Jamie Cleverly, Principal with Cleverly & Associates, stated. “However, the hospitals that are part of the Five Star group have achieved strong performance in each of the four measurable areas.” The four areas include: financial viability and facility reinvestment; hospital cost structure; hospital charge structure; and hospital quality performance. The study’s results are reported in State of the Hospital Industry – 2009 Edition.
